Day 24 – Prime Factorization

Day 24 – Out sick ! Not fun. Luckily, I had everything ready to go and I already heard from the sub that things were going well and the students were catching on quickly.  Students (should have) worked on Prime Factorization today.  My smartboard lesson and notes showed them two different methods. One is a factor tree, which they always seem to like and have fun with.  The other is repeat division of a prime number.  I’ve heard this called the “step” method, or “birthday cake”.  These both tend to be the most helpful for finding the Greatest Common Factor and Least Common Multiple of large numbers.
